About MESH

Complex challenges, clearly explained.

MESH Consulting Engineers are a Bristol-based consulting structural engineering practice specialising in heritage structures, commercial and industrial properties, and complex residential projects across the South West.

Our work is built on measured thinking, practical knowledge and decades of experience. We thrive on tackling projects that span centuries and styles, from historic preservation to cutting-edge construction.

Clarity shouldn’t be an extra.

Our clients value being able to easily understand their options and move forward with confidence. Working with MESH means concise explanations, clear recommendations, and conversations that are straightforward and constructive.

Mark Jerzak CEng MICE CARE

Managing Director / Chartered Engineer / Conservation Accredited Engineer

A Chartered and Conservation Accredited Engineer with over two decades of experience, Mark’s career spans major construction projects, conservation-led engineering, and the management of complex heritage works.

In the past, Mark held senior roles delivering and overseeing significant listed and conservation projects, including work on Grade I and Grade II* buildings across the South West.

His work is grounded in minimum intervention and reversibility. Rather than imposing solutions, he seeks to understand how a structure is behaving and what is genuinely required. This philosophy has shaped projects ranging from emergency stabilisation of medieval vaults to foundation investigations in historic city centres, façade retention schemes, timber-frame repairs and the structural integration of renewable technologies within listed landmarks.

Clients value his ability to explain complex structural issues clearly, to balance safety with conservation principles, and to recommend solutions that remain sensible long after the immediate project is complete.

Alongside his professional work, Mark is actively involved in the stewardship of historic community buildings in his local area and is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.

Sam Lear MEng (Hons)

Senior Engineer

Sam brings significant public-sector and consultancy experience to MESH, with a background spanning structural design, dangerous structures response and regulatory oversight.

Before joining MESH, Sam worked as Principal Structural Engineer for a local council, leading responses to dangerous structures and emergency incidents, advising emergency services and managing risk under statutory powers. He also acted as a consultant to the Building Safety Regulator, reviewing and advising on engineering design for high-risk buildings and providing independent technical scrutiny.

As an experienced project engineer, Sam has led structural design across residential and commercial developments. His experience includes temporary works design, façade retention schemes, foundation design, party wall matters and complex urban construction constraints.

Clients and colleagues value his calm approach, structured thinking and ability to navigate regulatory and safety considerations with clarity.
